As a freelance writer I have the flexibility of working whenever I want. Deadlines must still be met, but I know that I can spend all day with my kids and then work late into the night if I need to. When my brother-in-law was hospitalized recently for a severe injury, I was able to pack up my laptop and drive two hours away to be there for my sister. I was able to help out during the day and get my articles done at night. I would have had a hard time doing this with a traditional job.
A friend of mine works for an at home call center. Her office is in her walk-in closet. During the day she enjoys the Florida beaches and at night she takes phone calls from her closet. She enjoys the lifestyle very much. It also gives her flexibility as she can change her schedule as her needs change. When her mom was ill a few years ago, she was able to move her job to her parent’s house and help out.
Home jobs allow us to rearrange our schedules effortlessly to meet certain responsibilities. Daycare is very expensive and having a work at home job allows me to make a full time income without having to give half of it to daycare. As a single parent with no help with the children, it is very important for me to be able to be there for them. When the kids are sick and cannot go to school I am the only one who can stay home with them. My previous jobs gave me a really hard time when I needed to take off to care for a sick child. Home jobs allow me and others to take off when we need to. It’s a great thing.
