How do they do it? How do people who work from home manage their schedules when they have children? The importance of having a scheduled time to work cannot be stressed enough. Once you’ve decided what your work hours will be, you’ll also need a place to work.
Someplace quiet where you will not be disturbed is recommended. Some even employ the services of a babysitter or utilize daycare while working. Some may disagree with this concept because the whole idea of home employment usually is either to save money on babysitting, or to spend more time with their children. This is something you will have to decide for yourself, and it also will depend on what type of work you choose to do.
Some who have a daycare in their home,(as their profession or form of home employment)choose to keep their children at home with them and allow them to play with the other children being watched. If you have a virtual office job such as data entry, medical transcription or customer service, especially if it involves speaking with clients on the phone, having your children supervised outside of the home may be the best option for you.
Having your children cared for outside of the home does not always mean that they have to go to daycare. If you really think about it, you can utilize your networking skills and the internet to connect with other work from home mothers, you can schedule “play dates” with the other mothers’ children when their moms are not working. When you are not working you may wish to return the favor…actually, it would be in your best interest to return the favor!
If you are serious about making your home employment work for you, take advantage of the internet and use the discussion groups to contact other mothers. Don’t go it alone.
Remember, just because you chose home employment does not mean you have to cut yourself off from the workforce altogether. You are now entering into a different world of working, one that allows for more flexibility, more time with your children and the opportunity to keep bringing home the bacon!
