Making Gift Baskets

Gift baskets are a great way to give someone a gift when you really don’t know what to get them. This way, you do not have to worry about getting the wrong thing. Starting your own business making gift baskets is pretty simple.

You can make a gift basket for just about any occasion. It could include baby clothes and diapers for a baby shower, scented soaps and lotion for a spa day with your friends, or fruit for your mother on mother’s day.  No matter what the occasion is, you can not really go wrong with a gift like this.  Some of the most common supplies you will need will include: baskets, a glue gun, and bows.

You may also want to invest in a shrink wrap machine, which is a little pricey at around $300. You will want to keep track of what you are selling. I think that a simple spreadsheet would work just fine. Marketing will be very important to you because nobody will buy your product if they do not know that you even exist.

Go to your local Wal-Mart and buy some paper to print off your own business cards. Make sure that you buy the thick paper, not the thin stuff because that looks a little bit cheap. You will also want to stock up on loads of supplies that go inside of the baskets.

You may want to buy in bulk to reduce costs. You should have a few large items on the bottom to stuff the basket so it looks full and put the smaller items on top so that everyone can see exactly what they are getting.

When it comes to food you should use nonperishable food items or you may have all of your food go bad before you can sell it. A fruit basket at the store can cost a lot, but if you buy a bag of mixed fruit and make it yourself you can sell it for loads less than the store, thus everyone will be flocking to your house.
