Making money scams come in all shapes and sizes, and are even more dangerous thanks to the web. These often tantalizing lures of quick riches generally cost sizeable sums of money upfront and render little to no profit. Many scams are simply pyramid schemes, a business model illegal in many states. To help you navigate your way through the scams towards legitimate money making opportunities, I have devised a list of signs to watch for.
First, if the presentation of a business opportunity you are seeking come via pop-up ad or spam email, it is probably a money making scam. Pop-up ads and spam emails are difficult to trace. These advertisements are generated by a third party, making them even more difficult to prove. Legitimate money making opportunities will not accost you while you browse other sites or handle your daily email. Legitimate opportunities tend to be sought out.
Second, if it promises you doubling or tripling of your investment in the first week or even first month, you are probably looking at making money scams. In business, people very rarely come out even after their first few months operating. Some businesses consider themselves successful and don’t even cover their cost of operating in the first year. This is because businesses require investment and time to turn profit.
Third, look for a point person or legitimate contact person with any money making opportunity that is credible. Credible programs usually offer some kind of mentoring system to assure the success of their affiliates. These programs will not leave you high and dry after a large investment because you will be able to track them down. Programs that hide behind flashy websites with no clear line of authority or point person can be difficult to get money back from if products fail, and provide little support during the difficult months of a fledgling business.
Fourth, if the business you are considering doesn’t offer a valuable and legitimate product that you can see and review without purchase, you are likely looking at making money scams. There are many websites that promise you instant wealth and an easy lifestyle if you will only trust them and deposit hundreds of dollars into untraceable accounts. This is not a legitimate tactic for business. Scrutinize any product that you will be selling for value and marketability before you buy into a business program.
These tips may seem common sense. Many people, however, have been lured by pretty promises to abandon common sense and take the “risk of a lifetime”. Making money scams that sound too good to be true, though, usually are.
