Home base business is a popular subject in today’s culture. Many people are finding it more convenient to work from home and would rather work for themselves than someone else. They envision themselves in bunny slippers and pajamas sipping coffee at their computer desk while their peers go thru the morning rush to sit in traffic. There are basically 2 types of home base business. One type delivers or produces a product and one offers a service. If you decide to deliver a product or line of products, you will need to decide if you want to purchase and resell already made products or if you want to create and sell products. Either way you will have to determine if you will work in the retail or wholesale business. If you decide on wholesale you will sell business to business. In other words your business will sell to other businesses. If you decide on retail you will sell directly to consumers.
If you decide to offer a service in your home business you must determine to whom you will market your services, businesses or the public. Business to business services are extremely varied and are expected to cost more, simply because you will be helping someone else make money. A simple project can cost upwards of $5000. However, the quality of your work for this type of project will need to be impeccable.
Services directed towards the public are usually less expensive. Services to the public are often luxuries, things that make a person’s life easier. Depending upon the extent of the luxury and its necessity you may charge more for your services. For example you can charge more for preparing income taxes than you can for running errands. Income tax preparation is a necessity that requires trained skills. Running errands efficiently will require some planning, however, it is more of a luxury and specific training is not necessary.
