Publishing Your Own Book

by support1 on August 3, 2009

Writing a book is a great way to work from home. This gives you the convenience of setting your own hours and working when you want to.

Of course you may hit the occasional writers block, but everyone does from time to time. Writing the book is the easy part. Finding a publisher is when it gets really tricky. Most publishers will not take a second look at authors who have not been published in the past unless their book is completely amazing.

Even if they do accept your manuscript they have all of this legal jargon that you will probably need a lawyer to figure out what on earth it even says. Publishing the book yourself is an option to consider and it can save you lots of money. If your book sells really well, then that is all the more money in your pocket instead of the publishers.

You have to be realistic about how good of an author you really are and the amount of time that you are willing to put into the book. You will want to market your book in any way possible, and that can take a lot of time.  If publishing your own book does not sound all that appealing you can also print on demand.

This basically means that you have someone print off so many copies of a book, say 100 or so, instead of a whole lot. This way you don’t have a million boxes of books in your attic. Whether or not you want to hire outside help is completely up to you. Some people hire people to proofread their work or to design the cover for them.

Personally, I find it to be a little bit silly and I would rather do it myself that way that it is done the way that I want it to be. It is my dream to publish a book, and this seems like the easiest way to go about seeing your name in print, as I know a lot other people share this dream with me.
